Customer Review : Would be great if it worked right : DICE Silverline DUO-100-BMW (BMW/Mini Trunk Connection) I am very happy with this product. I installed it myself along with the Sirius SCC1 satellite tuner. I bought it mainly for listening to satellite radio but the iPod feature is a good feature too since I had to disable my 6 Disc CD Changer. I followed the installation directions implicitly which included disconnecting the battery. That is a bit of a pain in an X5 since the spare tire and spare tire holder have to be removed in order to get to the battery cables. Plus, after reconnecting the battery on a BMW, several electronic systems must be reinitialized. That all being said, the Dice Duo fired up perfectly and functions just fine. I have Navigation so the Sirius and iPod songs appear on the Navigation screen. Sound quality is just fine. At first the sound was a bit compressed and distorted on some channels but I simply reduced the base volume level of the Dice Duo unit (which is accomplished by pressing some buttons on the navigation screen) and then the sound was great. The SCC1 tuner plugs into the Dice Duo and everything works great. I installed the satellite antenna inside the rear spoiler of my X5 so it is completely hidden. When I first installed the antenna inside the spoiler, I had a weak signal but I had read a post somewhere stating that the magnetic mount antennas will not work as well unless they are mounted to a steel surface. So I got a small steel plate, glued it to the plastic base inside the spoiler and stuck the antenna on that plate. It worked! I have full signal strength and no visible antenna. I mounted the Dice Duo and the SCC1 tuner under the rear seat of my X5. I found a pocket just the right size to fit both units. The cables must be hooked up in the back where the 6 disc changer was mounted. The Dice Duo comes with a nice long cable so that it can be run just about anywhere in the car that you want- even up to the glove box. The iPod cable is too short by itself to run from the rear seat to the inside of the center console, but since I am getting a 2point5 spec.dock (ashtray mount for the iPhone) it will work out ok. The 2point5 spec.dock comes with a 30" cable with an iPod interface. So the spec.dock cable plugs into the end of the ipod cable that came with the Dice Duo. It makes for a nice clean installation. No more satellite receiver sitting on my center console with its clutter of wires. Update after 3 and a half months. I am no longer happy with this product. It started out nice, but then I started having issues. This thing has a lot of bugs. It switches the NAV screen back and forth from MAP to the Radio screen seemingly at random. The steering wheel controls work, but not correctly. If I want to scroll through my phone book the SAT Radio channels change too. The unit started disconnecting if the SAT signal was weak. A software update is supposed to fix that. But that meant reinitializing it and having to reset all of my presets. btw- I learned I can avoid disconnecting the battery, which is a big pain in an X5, and just pull the three radio fuses. But this week something happened to the unit. I had a big squelch noise through the speakers suddenly and my Radio/NAV unit locked up. I had to pull the fuses to reset it. Since then the DICE DUO reinitializes every time I start the car. Pulled the unit and am hoping for a warranty exchange.
